SPRILA grant 2026: subsidy for charging stations and C&I battery storage

More and more companies are switching to electric vehicles and investing in charging points on their own premises. At the same time, the demand for smart energy solutions is growing, such as C&I battery storage (commercial & industrial energy storage). By combining charging infrastructure with a battery, companies can store energy, reduce peak loads and use solar energy more efficiently.

To support this development, the Dutch government offers the Private charging infrastructure for businesses grant scheme (SPRILA). Under this scheme, businesses can receive a subsidy for charging stations on owned or leased premises. In 2026, the subsidy is open from 20 January to 18 December, as long as budget remains available. For this year, €87.5 million has been made available for charging infrastructure and connected energy storage.

SPRILA grant for charging infrastructure and battery storage

The SPRILA grant is intended for companies that want to install charging points for, for example:

  • Company cars
  • Vans
  • Trucks
  • Electric construction equipment

The scheme applies to AC charging stations from 11 kW and DC fast chargers from 20 kW on private premises, for example at business sites or logistics locations. What many entrepreneurs do not know is that battery storage can also be included in the subsidy when it is connected to charging infrastructure. This makes it attractive to combine charging points directly with a battery.

A C&I battery can, for example:

  • Reduce peak loads on the electricity grid
  • Store energy from solar panels
  • Charge vehicles more efficiently
  • Limit grid congestion

Under SPRILA, around 40% subsidy can be obtained on the investment in charging infrastructure and connected battery storage. This makes it attractive to realise a future-proof charging hub.

Investing smartly with subsidies

For many companies, the investment in charging infrastructure and battery storage is substantial. By making smart use of subsidies and tax incentives, the business case can improve significantly. In practice, SPRILA is often the most attractive scheme, because it can provide a direct subsidy of around 40% on charging infrastructure and battery storage. Additional tax incentives can then increase the financial benefit even further.

Other subsidies and tax deductions

In addition to SPRILA, there are several other schemes that may be relevant for companies investing in sustainable energy or battery storage.

  • The small-scale investment allowance (KIA) is a tax deduction on profit for entrepreneurs who invest in business assets. The benefit can amount to around 28% tax deduction, depending on the total investment amount in a financial year.
  • The energy investment allowance (EIA) encourages investments in energy-saving technologies and renewable energy. Entrepreneurs can deduct an additional 40.5% of the investment amount from their taxable profit. For battery storage, minimum requirements often apply of 5 kW of power and 15 kWh of storage capacity. In many cases, the battery must be connected to solar panels.
  • Finally, there is the Rabobank SME sustainability contribution. Business customers of Rabobank can receive 12.5% of the invoice amount back, up to a maximum of €10,000. This scheme may be interesting for sustainable investments such as solar panels of approximately 15,000 to 55,000 Wp in combination with energy storage.

By combining these schemes strategically, the net investment in charging infrastructure and C&I battery storage can be significantly reduced. For companies electrifying their fleet or preparing their site for electric charging, this can be an important financial incentive.
