How does active load balancing with Zaptec Sense work?

Open electrical panel with various circuit breakers and switches neatly arranged inside. A device with a small screen called Zaptec Sense module that uses active load balancing is connected by a cable, set in a clean, neutral space.

Active load balancing ensures that your Zaptec charger automatically takes household power consumption into account. This prevents the main fuse from being overloaded when, for example, the oven, washing machine, and charger are all running at the same time.

Zaptec uses Zaptec Sense for this purpose — a smart module that continuously monitors energy consumption and controls the charger accordingly.

Why is active load balancing important?

  • Prevents power outages or overloads
  • Makes optimal use of available grid capacity
  • Provides a more efficient charging process

What installation options are available for Zaptec Sense?

Depending on your situation, there are three installation options:

  • Zaptec Sense with direct P1 connection Connect the Sense module directly to the P1 port of your smart meter via a cable.
  • Zaptec Sense with external in-line energy meter (EM340)

This option is suitable if direct P1 connection is not possible.

  • Zaptec Sense with external energy meter + CT coils (EM330)

For installations where current transformers are needed (e.g. multiple distribution boards or complex setups).

Zaptec Sense is the solution for anyone who wants to charge safely and efficiently, fully adapted to the household power consumption. Choose the right installation option based on your fuse box and preferably have the installation carried out by a certified installer.
